This verse is a gentle invitation: stop carrying the weight of figuring everything out on your own. Solomon is teaching his child that wisdom begins where self-reliance ends — not by trusting less, but by trusting the right Person with all of it.
“Lean not on your own understanding” doesn’t mean stop thinking. It means our view is small, and God’s is whole. When we hand Him our plans — the big decisions and the ordinary days — He straightens the path we cannot see around the bend. For a child, this is freedom: you don’t have to be the strongest or the smartest in the room. You can trust a good Father who already knows the way.
Ask your child where they feel worried or unsure right now. That worry is exactly the thing this verse invites them to hand over.
